Privacy Policy
Strolla ("we," "us," or "the app") is an interval walking coach for iPhone and Apple Watch, developed by Kuthay Gumus ("the developer"). It guides you through Japanese interval walking — alternating brisk and easy minutes — with spoken cues, and keeps a record of your walks on your device. The developer is the data controller for the purposes of applicable data protection laws. This Privacy Policy describes what information Strolla accesses, how that information is handled, and the choices available to you.
Information We Do Not Collect
Strolla does not collect, store, or transmit personal information to any server owned or operated by us. There is no account, no sign-in, and no cloud sync. The app contains no analytics frameworks, no advertising SDKs, no crash reporting services, and no third-party tracking SDKs of any kind. We do not use fingerprinting or any form of user identification. We do not collect device identifiers or IP addresses. Strolla does not use GPS or request your location — it times your intervals; it does not track your route. We do not sell, share, or rent user data to any third party.
On-Device Data
Your walk history (the date, length and brisk minutes of each walk you finish), your progress (level and milestones), and your settings (your interval plan and cue preferences) are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework and the device's own preferences storage. We do not operate any server or backend, and your data never touches our infrastructure. Your data leaves the app only in the ways described below, and only to places that belong to you: Apple Health (with your permission), your own paired Apple Watch, and your device's own backup. Beyond these, something leaves the app only when you send it yourself: a milestone card (an image of your level and milestone) that you choose to share through the iOS share sheet, or a feedback email (see Network Access).
If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or to a computer, that backup — made by Apple, under your Apple ID and settings — can include Strolla's on-device data, as it does for any app. We have no access to it.
Apple Health (HealthKit)
Strolla uses Apple's HealthKit framework only if you grant permission, and you can use every coaching feature without it. With your permission:
- On iPhone, Strolla saves each walk you finish to Apple Health as a Walking workout (its start, end and duration), so it counts toward your activity. Apple's permission screen asks only to save workouts; on iPhone, Strolla does not read any data from Health. It does not write any other health data type.
- On Apple Watch, Strolla runs a workout session for the length of your walk. When the walk ends it saves the workout together with the active energy and walking distance your watch measured during it. It reads your heart rate during the walk so that the heart-rate readings your watch takes are recorded with the workout. Heart rate is the only health data type Strolla reads; it does not read workouts. It does not read or write any other health data type.
Health data is handled on your devices only. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, never shared with any third party, and never sent to us. Strolla does not store your health data in iCloud; Apple Health itself may sync it between your devices according to your Apple ID settings, which is governed by Apple's privacy policy. You can review or turn off Strolla's Health access at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Health > Strolla.
Voice Cues and Audio
Strolla's spoken cues are generated on your device by Apple's built-in speech synthesis. No text or audio is sent anywhere to produce them. Strolla never uses the microphone and never records audio. To keep coaching while your iPhone is locked, the app keeps a silent audio track playing between cues during a walk; it lowers other audio (such as your music) only for the moment a cue is spoken.
Apple Watch Connection
When you use Strolla on Apple Watch, your iPhone and your watch exchange your interval plan, your Premium status, and the walks you finish, directly between your two devices using Apple's WatchConnectivity framework. Nothing is routed through a server of ours.
Network Access
The app makes no network requests to collect or transmit your data. The network is used only when you act:
- When you tap a legal or support link (Privacy, Terms, or Support), the page opens in an in-app browser view. These pages are hosted on GitHub Pages (operated by GitHub, Inc.); as with any website, GitHub may briefly process your IP address in its server logs for security and operation. We do not receive or use those logs.
- When you view, buy or restore Strolla Premium, the App Store handles it through Apple's StoreKit (see In-App Purchases).
- When you choose to send feedback, Strolla opens a draft email in your mail app addressed to us, with the app version, iOS version and device type added at the bottom so we can help. You see the whole message before anything is sent, and nothing is sent unless you send it.
No data about you is sent in the background, and nothing is exchanged with any external service during a walk.
In-App Purchases
Strolla offers optional premium features through in-app purchases managed entirely by Apple's StoreKit and the App Store. Apple processes the payment. We never see, receive, process, or store your payment details, billing address, or Apple ID credentials. The app asks the App Store only whether Premium is active on your Apple ID. All transaction data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Data Retention and Deletion
Because Strolla does not collect data on any external server, there is no user data for us to retain. You remain in control of every copy:
- Deleting Strolla from your iPhone (and from your Apple Watch) removes all of the app's locally stored data.
- Workouts Strolla saved to Apple Health stay in Health until you delete them there, as with any app that writes to Health. You can remove them in the Health app.
- You can withdraw Strolla's Health permission at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Health > Strolla.
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (including but not limited to rights under the GDPR, CCPA, KVKK, and equivalent regulations), you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, as well as the right to restrict or object to certain processing. Because Strolla does not collect personal data on any external server, these rights are effectively exercised directly through your device — your data is in your hands at all times. If you have questions about exercising your rights, please contact us using the details below.
Children's Privacy
Strolla is not directed at children and does not collect data from anyone. Since the app does not collect, store, or transmit data to any server, no personal data — including any data of a child — is gathered by us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Your continued use of Strolla after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
