Privacy Policy
Pip & Pages ("we," "us," or "the app") is a cozy reading companion for iPhone and iPad developed by Kuthay Gumus ("the developer"), designed to help you track your books, time your reading sessions, save your favorite quotes, and keep your reading streaks alive. The developer is the data controller for the purposes of applicable data protection laws. This Privacy Policy describes what information Pip & Pages accesses, how that information is handled, and the choices available to you.
Information We Do Not Collect
Pip & Pages does not collect, store, or transmit personal information to any server owned or operated by us. The app has no accounts and no login. It contains no analytics frameworks, no advertising SDKs, no crash reporting services, and no third-party tracking of any kind. We do not sell, share, or rent user data to any third party.
On-Device Data
Your books, reading sessions, saved quotes, reading streaks, reading goals, preferences, and app settings are stored locally on your device using Apple frameworks (SwiftData). This data remains on your device and is not accessible to us unless you choose to enable iCloud sync as described below.
iCloud Sync
If iCloud is enabled on your device, Pip & Pages may sync your app data across your Apple devices through your own private iCloud (CloudKit) container. This data is accessible only to you through your Apple ID. We do not have the ability to access, read, or modify your iCloud data. Apple's Privacy Policy governs iCloud storage and transmission.
Camera and Photos
Pip & Pages requests camera and photo library access so you can scan a book's barcode (ISBN) when you add a book, and so you can take or choose a cover photo for a book. When scanning a barcode, the camera feed is used solely for reading the barcode on your device, and nothing from that scan ever leaves your device or reaches us. Cover photos you take or choose are stored only on your device, and synced through your own private iCloud if you enable iCloud. They're never uploaded to us or shared with any third party. Pip does not download cover images from any online service. You may decline camera or photo access and add books manually instead.
Book Lookups (Open Library)
When you add a book by scanning its barcode (ISBN) or by searching for a title or author, Pip & Pages sends only the ISBN or the search text you enter to Open Library — a free, public-domain book catalog operated by the non-profit Internet Archive — in order to retrieve book details such as the title, author, and page count. These requests contain only the text you choose to enter; they are not linked to your name, your Apple ID, or any account or device identifier, and we never receive them. Retrieved details are cached on your device so the same book is not looked up again. Pip & Pages does not use Google, Google Books, or any other commercial data provider, and it does not download cover images from any service. If a lookup fails or returns no match, you can always add the book manually.
In-App Purchases
The core of Pip & Pages is free, including unlimited books, quotes, reading sessions, streak tracking, the Home Screen and Lock Screen widget, and iCloud sync. The app also offers an optional upgrade, Pip Pro, which unlocks mood logs, OCR quote scanning, a year-end reading story, CSV import, and Pip costumes. Pip Pro is available as a monthly or yearly auto-renewable subscription (the yearly plan includes a 7-day free trial for new subscribers) or a one-time, non-renewing lifetime purchase. All purchases are managed entirely by Apple's App Store. We do not receive, process, or store your payment information, billing address, or Apple ID credentials. All transaction data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Data Retention and Deletion
Because Pip & Pages does not collect data on external servers, there is no user data for us to retain. All app data stored on your device can be deleted at any time by deleting the app. If you use iCloud sync, you may also remove synced data through your iCloud storage settings.
Legal Basis for Processing
Under the GDPR, KVKK, and equivalent data protection regulations, data processing requires a legal basis. Pip & Pages's legal basis for processing your data is:
- Consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)): You voluntarily choose to enter all data into the app. No data is collected without your active input.
- Contract performance (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)): Processing is necessary to provide the app's core functionality (storing and displaying the data you enter).
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (including but not limited to rights under the GDPR, CCPA, KVKK, and equivalent regulations), you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, as well as the right to restrict or object to certain processing. Because Pip & Pages does not collect personal data on external servers, these rights are effectively exercised through your device and iCloud settings. If you have questions about exercising your rights, please contact us using the details below.
Children's Privacy
Pip & Pages does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age (or the applicable minimum age in the relevant jurisdiction). The app does not require account creation, login credentials, or personal data input of any kind. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Your continued use of Pip & Pages after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
